Once upon a time an old lady named Naomi had three sons with her husband Elimelich.
There was a famine in her land so they moved to Moab.
Moab was a bad bad place to raise a family but Elimelich led them there anyway.
Their sons married three Moab women but had no children.
Soon after Elimelich and his sons died.
Naomi decided to move back to her town.
Her daughter-in-law Ruth went with her.
When they returned to the land, Naomi realized that all her land would go to waste,
because she didn’t have a man to carry on the family lineage.
Ruth decided to support Naomi as best she could, so Naomi sent her to work in a relative’s wheat field.
Ruth was very pretty, and Boaz, Naomi’s relative, saw this and wanted her.
However she had to be redeemed by the next closest relative to Naomi, & he wasnt the closest.
He told his Ruth to stay near his fields and workers so someone wouldn’t rape her.
She obeyed and as an offer of thanks went to him on the threshing room floor to give herself to him.
He picked her up and said “No. I’ll make you my wife first.”
Boaz went to the closest relative and asked if he wanted Ruth and Elimelich’s land.
The relative said no, and Boaz said that he would take her.
He married her the next week.
I say all this to say,
Never allow yourself to be second best.
